I am Emma from Ely,UK. I am originally from New Zealand, but I have lived in the England for over 20 years now.
I am a longtime customer of Lilli and I have been collecting miniatures for a while.
Having dressed a doll I became interested in making them. I have purchased a kiln and all the molds from a lady that retired in the UK and aim to start making porcelain dolls when I have time.
I have just returned from attending the KSBMiniatures Workshops where I took Jeanne Rullie’s class and made my first polymer clay doll.
So looking forward to learning more. I have already watched the tutorials.
Hi Emma, good to see you on the forum! I am so excited to see you making dolls. How fantasic that you have a kiln and are going into porcelain. I saw your post from Jeanne's class, and you did excellent! Polymer clay is a great medium and I use it to make models for mold making. I actually started out using polymer clay 22 years ago! Have you tried Bee's Putty? I use Sculpey Firm for most of the figure, and then Bee's Putty for delicate hands (it's a really firm clay).
Keep us updated on your progess and any questions are welcome :)
In Jeanne's class we used sculpey natural doll and for the hands we used cosclay. I am gathering the supplies to be able to sculpt with as for the Christmas house I am working on I will make elves. First will be making moulds.
Still want to try using the kiln too of course. It’s a bit of a white elephant sat in the study. It’s only put to use as a side table at present!
I know kilns are a bit intimdating at first. It's really a simple tool, but takes testing and using it over and over to really understand it. Go for it!
Hi! What a lovely idea for a forum! I am Hubérine from Belgium (instagram chateaudorcy). I started 2 years ago with miniatures. Recently I made my first doll from polymer clay. I bought the hair for my doll on your etsy and I love your tutorials! I want to make more dolls in the future. I am thinking about getting started with porcelain and make my own molds. I am very excited!
Hi Huberine, nice to meet you! Yes I follow you on Instagram and your dolls are so lovely! You are well on your way to making your own molds honestly. Sculpting is half of the battle! So glad I could help you. Let me know if you have any questions or ideas :)
Hi Lilli, thank you so much! That's very sweet! I have never worked with porcelain before, so I will have to do a lot of research, but I always like to learn new skills!
Porcelain is a wonderful material! I started making dolls in clay and I still use it to make models. I am hooked on porcelain though for the final result. I learned from many sources about porcelain. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll start posting more about porcelain in the group "Porcelain/Clay/Resin".
Hi Lilli, I am Nathalie Mori from France. I am happy that there is a new place to have chat about dolls! I am making dolls since 2009 now and I still enjoy the process !
